How To Get To Sonar Festival: 10 Essential Logistics Tips

Sónar Barcelona is one of Europe's most important electronic music and digital arts festivals. Every June it draws tens of thousands of attendees to the city, and getting your transport right is half the battle. Last updated June 2026 with the latest venue changes and confirmed transport prices.

Quick Answer: In 2026 the entire festival runs from one venue — Fira Gran Via L'Hospitalet. Take the L9 Sud metro to the Fira station or the FGC L8 line to Europa/Fira. Both connections cost €2.55 / ~€3 on a standard TMB ticket and take 20–30 minutes from central Barcelona.

This year Sónar dropped the historic two-venue split. There is no longer a separate "Sónar by Day" at Fira Montjuïc. Everything — afternoon stages, night stages, and select Sónar+D installations — happens at Fira Gran Via. The only separate site is the Sónar+D programme at Llotja de Mar in the city centre on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June.

What Is Sónar Barcelona?

Sónar is an internationally acclaimed festival dedicated to advanced music and new media art. Unlike grass-field camping festivals, it is entirely urban: stages are indoors and outdoors inside large convention buildings, which makes transport planning simpler than most European summer events.

The festival runs across two distinct programme strands. Sónar (the music part) takes place at Fira Gran Via in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, a municipality immediately west of Barcelona. Sónar+D (the professional congress and digital art strand) takes place at Llotja de Mar, a historic building steps from Barceloneta beach. You can attend both in the same day — Sónar+D runs 10:00–20:00, then Fira Gran Via opens at 17:00 — but you need to factor in a 25-minute transit between the two.

Admission is restricted to ages 18 and over. There are no exceptions. Sónar Kids, a separate family event, returns in 2026 at a different location announced closer to the festival dates.

Sónar Barcelona 2026: Dates and Key Changes

Sónar 2026 runs from Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 June 2026. Doors open at 17:00 each day. Music runs until 03:00 on Thursday and until 07:00 on Friday and Saturday. That means Friday and Saturday nights effectively end at dawn — plan your return journey accordingly.

The biggest 2026 change: Sónar by Day and Sónar by Night have merged into a single event at Fira Gran Via. The old Fira Montjuïc daytime venue is gone. If you attended Sónar before 2026, delete your mental map of the day-to-night shuttle journey. You no longer commute between venues mid-evening. One ticket, one site, six stages (three indoor: SonarClub, SonarHall, SonarCar; three outdoor: SonarVillage by Estrella Damm, SonarLab, SonarPark).

The Sónar 2026 lineup is now complete at 102 acts. Check the TMB Metro Map and Schedules for real-time service alerts during festival days, as TMB sometimes adds late-night reinforcement runs on the L9 Sud.

Getting Your Tickets: Options and Where to Buy

Always buy directly from the official Sónar website. Third-party resellers operate in a grey area and some sell invalid tickets. The official site is the only guaranteed source for physical wristbands and digital passes.

Ticket types for 2026:

  • SonarPass — access to all three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) at Fira Gran Via. Expected price range €200–€300 based on prior years.
  • SonarPass+D — SonarPass plus full access to the Sónar+D programme at Llotja de Mar on Thursday and Friday.
  • Day Ticket — single-day access to Fira Gran Via. Thursday tickets run 17:00–03:00. Friday and Saturday tickets run 17:00–07:00. Day and night tickets typically cost €40–€80 each.
  • Weekend Ticket — Friday and Saturday only at Fira Gran Via.
  • Sónar+D standalone passes — two-day or individual day passes for the Llotja de Mar programme only.

Wristband collection happens at the main Fira Gran Via entrance. Bring your confirmation PDF and a valid photo ID. Wait times are shortest on Thursday morning and early afternoon. Read our is sonar festival worth it guide for a full breakdown of ticket value.

How to Get to Fira Gran Via (The Main Sónar Venue)

Fira Gran Via is at Avinguda Joan Carles I, 64, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. It sits just outside the Barcelona city boundary but is well served by two rail options. The FGC L8 line from Plaça Espanya to Europa/Fira station is the fastest and most direct route — 10 to 15 minutes, and a standard TMB/FGC Zone 1 ticket covers it.

The L9 Sud metro also stops at the Fira station, one stop further than Europa/Fira but effectively at the same entrance plaza. From the city centre the L9 Sud takes 20 to 30 minutes and costs €2.55 on a T-Casual card top-up. Note: the L9 Sud airport segment charges a €5.50 supplement, but that applies only to airport-origin journeys.

Several TMB bus lines also serve the Fira Gran Via area. Check the TMB website for Nitbus (N-series night buses) which run after midnight when metro frequency drops. Taxis and rideshare are available outside both terminal halls but expect significant queues at 03:00 and 07:00 exits. Sharing a cab with three or four people costs roughly €15–€20 to central Barcelona at that hour.

Sónar will also run official shuttle buses between central Barcelona and Fira Gran Via. Details and boarding points will be confirmed on the official Sónar website closer to the festival. Check our where to stay for sonar festival guide for hotels near Fira Gran Via that cut this journey to a short walk.

Getting to Sónar+D at Llotja de Mar

Llotja de Mar is in the El Born neighbourhood, a 5-minute walk from Barceloneta metro station (L4, yellow line) and about 10 minutes from the Arc de Triomf (L1). The address is Passeig d'Isabel II, 1. It is not the same venue as the main Fira Gran Via site, and a standard Sónar Day Ticket does not cover entry here.

The Sónar+D programme runs 10:00–20:00 on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June. This means you can attend talks and exhibitions in the morning and still reach Fira Gran Via before the 17:00 doors. Allow 25 minutes for the transit between the two: take the L4 from Barceloneta to Espanya, then switch to the FGC L8 or walk 10 minutes to the L9 Sud.

Bus lines V15 and V17 pass near the waterfront if you prefer a surface-level route. The journey from Llotja de Mar to Fira Gran Via by bus takes 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, so factor that in if you want to catch early-evening sets at the main venue.

Airport to Sónar: Transport Options and Prices

Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) has two active passenger terminals. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have different access points to public transport, so confirm your terminal before you land.

  • Aerobús (A1 from T1, A2 from T2) — €5.90 single, €10.20 return (valid 15 days). Runs every 5–10 minutes to Plaça de Catalunya via Plaça Espanya. Takes 35 minutes. Best for those staying near the city centre who want a direct, luggage-friendly route. Buy tickets at machines or from the driver. Full details at Aerobús Barcelona Lines and Prices.
  • R2 Nord train (Rodalies) — €2.55 single. Departs Terminal 2 only, every 30 minutes between 05:00 and 23:30. Takes 25 minutes to Barcelona Sants. T2 users save money here; T1 arrivals need the free shuttle bus to T2 first. Consult Rodalies de Catalunya (R2 Nord Train) for timetables.
  • L9 Sud metro — €5.50 (airport supplement applies on this segment only). Connects both terminals directly to the Fira station — the same stop used for Sónar by Night. Takes 30 minutes. Best option if you want to go straight to Fira Gran Via from the airport with one bag on a travel day when the festival is already running.
  • Official taxi — €30–€40 depending on traffic. Available 24/7 outside both terminal arrivals. Best for groups of three or four with heavy luggage.

If you buy your Sónar ticket online, you may be eligible for a 20% discount on the Hola Barcelona Travel Card — a multi-day unlimited transport pass. Check your purchase confirmation email for a redemption code. A 72-hour card typically costs around €21 after the festival discount and covers metro, FGC, Aerobús, and local buses across Zones 1–2.

Re-entry Rules and the 11 PM Cutoff

Sponsored

This is the rule that catches first-timers off guard. You may leave the Fira Gran Via venue and re-enter once per day, but only if you leave before 23:00. If you leave after 23:00, or if you have already made one exit and return, you cannot re-enter that evening.

Security enforces this strictly. No exceptions are made regardless of the reason for leaving. If you want dinner outside the venue, leave by 21:00 at the latest to give yourself time to eat, transit back, and queue for re-entry before the cutoff. The security queue at peak re-entry times (20:00–22:30) can add 20–30 minutes to your plan.

You are allowed to bring one half-litre bottle of water (without a cap) and one item of food into the venue. Alcohol, metal containers, and glass are prohibited. Free water refill stations are available inside. Given Barcelona in June averages 26°C by day and stays warm at night, hydration matters — use the refill stations rather than buying bottled water at festival prices.

Essential Tips for Your Sónar Barcelona Experience

The FGC L8 line from Plaça Espanya to Europa/Fira is the best-kept secret for late-night exits. It is covered by the same Zone 1 ticket as the metro and typically has shorter queues than the L9 Sud platforms during the 03:00 and 07:00 rush. Check operating hours the night before — last trains occasionally run earlier than the general metro cutoff.

Taxi queues at 07:00 on Friday and Saturday mornings are the longest logistical pain point at Sónar. Experienced attendees either leave slightly before the end of sets (06:30 rather than 07:00) or walk 10 minutes toward the Granvia 2 shopping centre to catch a taxi further from the main crowd. Pre-booking a private transfer the day before is the cleanest solution if budget allows.

  • Download the official Sónar app for live stage timetables and venue maps.
  • Wear comfortable trainers — the Fira Gran Via exhibition halls involve significant walking between indoor and outdoor stages.
  • Check Meteocat or AEMET for evening forecasts. June evenings in L'Hospitalet can be breezy even when the day is hot. A light layer in your bag is worth the space.
  • Keep your belongings secure in large crowds, especially at popular headliner sets.
  • Book accommodation at least three to four months before the festival. Barcelona hotels sell out and prices spike during Sónar week. See our where to stay for sonar festival guide for neighbourhood recommendations close to both venue types.

Is there a shuttle bus for Sónar Festival?

Yes, Sónar will run official shuttle buses between central Barcelona and Fira Gran Via. Boarding points and schedules are published on the official Sónar website closer to the festival dates. In 2026 there is no longer a shuttle between a Day venue and a Night venue — both programmes are at Fira Gran Via.

Can I use the Hola Barcelona card for Sónar?

You can use this card for all public transport to the festival. It covers the metro, FGC trains, local buses, and the airport Aerobús. Sónar ticket buyers may be eligible for a 20% discount on the card — check your confirmation email for the redemption code.

How do I get from Sónar Day to Sónar Night?

In 2026 there is no separate Day and Night venue. Both are combined at Fira Gran Via L'Hospitalet. You do not need to travel between venues during the festival day.

Getting to Sónar 2026 is more straightforward than in previous years thanks to the single-venue format at Fira Gran Via. The FGC L8 and the L9 Sud metro both drop you steps from the entrance. Always remember the 11 PM re-entry cutoff and plan any dinner break accordingly. Enjoy the music and the unique energy of Barcelona this June.

Pack comfortable shoes and confirm your Hola Barcelona discount before you travel. With a little preparation, your festival logistics will be completely seamless. Safe travels and have an unforgettable time at Sónar 2026.
